Art was a terrific guy. A great colleague. When one of my kids was little, and not sleeping through the night, Art gave me some very practical advice for getting my child to sleep through the night. I miss him. We were also indirectly related through our mutual cousin Bert Berson and Bert’s sister Judy Clemente—the children of Art's maternal uncle, Irving Levine. In writing a reconstruction of my family’s history (my parents knew Art’s—small world!), Art introduced me to his mother, and paved the way for me to interview her by telephone. I am sorry he is gone. I was hoping that he would beat back the illness and return to us at City College. But it is of some consolation to me that I have good memories of a fine colleague.

My sincere condolences to Marlene, and two sons and family of Dr. Arthur Spielman. Like you I am heart broken to learn of his passing. I feel like I lost a family member. Words are insufficient to express how much he help me at a critical point in my life.
