Dear Toby and family - Louise and I are truly heartbroken over Dan's passing. He meant so many things to me over the close to 40 years that I was lucky enough to know him and the impact he had on my life, both personally and professionally, is unsurpassed. I have looked up to him my entire professional career and will miss his guidance and advice, humor as well as his companionship at screenings. He was a man of great taste, empathy, heart and spirit and I am blessed to have known him. Our deepest sympathy, Jonathan and Louise Sehring

Deepest condolences to Toby and the girls. Besides being a visionary in the world of cinema, he was more importantly a warm, kind, decent man and all of us - his New Yorker Films family - adored him. He changed all of our lives for the better and we'll always be grateful for our years with him.

You’ve had a great influence on my life ever since coming to New York City in 1994. I was privileged to work at Lincoln Plaza Cinemas for many years. You were such a generous man and I loved talking to you about film. Your exquisite taste in film and love of people from all over the world will continue to inspire all who have known you and even to some that never met you but were touched by the significant cultural impact you made. Most importantly you provided a place that was like a second home to those that worked there and to the loyal film lovers that eagerly lost themselves in the diverse lineup of films you so thoughtfully chose. I wish I had expressed these words to you directly when I was sure that you could read them, but I’m hoping you’ll somehow see them projected through the flicker of light.
