Elizabeth A. Marks, wife of Burton for 61 years, mother of David and Rosanne, mother-in-law of Roberta, and, most importantly, nana to Sonia. A lifelong New Yorker, she was a graduate of Hunter College and a practitioner of a dizzying array of professions, from New York City schoolteacher and fashion saleswoman to test kitchen doyenne at The Ladies Home Journal. She was a loyal and loquacious friend, raconteur and gracious hostess. Her courageous and tenacious struggle for independence continued unabated after the loss of her leg. Her strength and will were unequalled. Equipped with her navy blue motorized wheelchair, she worshipped at the altar of Whole Foods, Fairway and Trader Joe’s, making friends along the way. Her artistic impulses expressed themselves in beaded necklaces for all, baby sweaters and blankets and, of course, gourmet tour de force. Service to be held at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 W. 76th St., Manhattan, Sunday, October 25 at 12:45 p.m. Donations may be made to the ALS Association.
