On October 22, 2015, Dr. Fredda Vita Ginsberg-Fellner, 78, passed away at the Lenox Hill Hospital after suffering from a long, protracted illness. Fredda was a wonderful and brilliant wife and mother, a caring physician and teacher, and a loving grandmother, sister and aunt. Fredda was revered by colleagues and loved by her patients; her overarching goal in her work was to help children with diabetes. She was a trailblazing pioneer for her work on juvenile diabetes and childhood obesity. During her long career, she was twice voted to "The Best Doctors in the United States." (1994 and 1997). She also won the prestigious Alexander Richman award (1995) as well as the Ellenberg Service Award (1992). Retired Professor of Pediatrics and Director, Division of Pediatric Endocrinology, Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Past President, New York Diabetes Association, New York Pediatric Society. Past Chair, Council on Diabetes in Youth, American Diabetes Association, Camp NYDA for children with diabetes. Graduate Bronx High School of Science, 1953, Cornell University, 1957, New York University School of Medicine, 1961, where she was elected to the Honor Society Alpha Omega Alpha. Devoted daughter of the late Nathaniel Ginsberg and Bertha Jagendorf. Beloved wife of Dr. Michael J. Fellner. Loving mother of Jonathan R. Fellner, Esq., of Chevy Chase, MD and Melinda Fellner Bramwit, Esq. (Mark) of Bedminster, New Jersey. Adored and adoring grandmother of Nathaniel H. and Nicholas C Fellner and Harry E., Miles B., and Simon F. Bramwit. Caring sister of Anne G. Mazelis (Jack). Dear aunt of Lorraine M. Flaherty (Brian) and Joan M. Mazelis (Steve Eauclaire). Great-aunt of Shaina, Carissa and Benen Flaherty and Amelia and Sam, Mazelis-EauClaire.
