Louise Stern (nee Altman) passed away peacefully at home with her son and caretakers by her side on Friday, December 11. She was born on June 23, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York to Edith and David Altman, who predeceased her. Louise grew up in Lawrence, New York. She is also predeceased by her brother Melvyn Altman.
Louise is survived by her two sons Robin and Marc, her brother Dr. Alan Altman and his wife Judi, her cherished granddaughters Jessie and Zoe Paradis Stern, her daughter-in-law Julie Paradis, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Maura and Joel Surnamer, nephews Matthew and Joshua Altman, and Glen and Eric Surnamer and many lifelong friends.
Louise was a Co-Founder and supporter of the Breast Health Resource Program at Mount Sinai Hospital. She was an active and longtime member of the Mount Sinai Hospital Auxillary Board.
A memorial service to celebrate Louise’s life will be held at 11 am Monday, December 14 at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 76th St and Amsterdam Ave, NYC. Interment will take place at New Montefiore Cemetery in Long Island following the service.
The Stern and Altman families would like to extend their gratitude to those involved in Louise’s care, including Dr. David Muller of Mount Sinai Visiting Docs and her devoted caretakers, Sele-na Ewart, Yolanda, Natalia and the many visiting nurses.
