Passed away on December 10, 2015 in Manhattan, New York. She died peacefully in her home with family at her side. She was 72 years old.
Lois was born on October 27, 1943 in Lawrence, Kansas, the daughter of Wilbur Criss and Wilma Turner, both deceased. She graduated from the University of Virginia and was a passionate educator, teaching math in Virginia and South Carolina in a career spanning over thirty years. She was also a competitive contract bridge player.
Lois is survived by her son, Jonathan Ball, of New York, NY and her daughter Amy Ball, of Moscow, ID, in addition to five cherished granddaughters: Emily, Molly, Ella, Katie, and Samantha. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, friend and teacher.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the many doctors and nurses who provided exceptional care for Lois over the last five years, including Dr. Ania Wajnberg of the Mount Sinai Visiting Doctors Program, Theresa Burke of the Visiting Nurses of NY, and Lois' private nurses Adaobi Jibulu, Yvette Jubuisson, Benith Valerius, and many others. A special debt of gratitude goes to Lois’ aunt, Myrna Ellsworth, whose selfless devotion brought so much happiness and peace to Lois.
