Died peacefully in her home in Forest Hills on December 21. She was born on September 27, 1929 to Frank and Eva Berkowski (later Berk) in Brussels, Belgium. Her family fled the Nazis when she was 11, after her father escaped from Breendonk Prison Camp, and they made their way to the United States. When their ship was refused entry into the U.S., they were taken to Cuba where they spent the rest of the war. Elizabeth married Louis Mayo in 1949. A talented artist and singer, Elizabeth graduated from Hunter College with a major in anthropology. As well as being devoted to her family, her keen intellect, mathematical excellence and love of people, enabled Elizabeth to spend decades working with Louis Mayo in building Mayo Studios, a NYC based photography and design studio. In her role as Treasurer, Elizabeth served as the company's office manager and bookkeeper. Louis passed away in 1993. She is survived by her two children, Mark Mayo and Deborah Mayo, four grandchildren, Isaac Chatfield, Mickey Mayo, Erika Mayo, Toni Mayo, daughter-in-law Sandy Mayo, son-in-law George W Chatfield, great-grandson Alden Mayo and her loving, live-in aide for many years, Betty Ramdat.
