Irwin I. Bernstein died of natural causes on August 18, 2016. “Beanzie” as he was affectionately known was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York (he could hit three sewers). He proudly graduated from James Madison High School, attended the University of Vermont, served in the National Guard, then went into business with his father, mentor, and friend, Sidney. Sidney Bernstein and Son Lingerie, Inc. was a very successful manufacturer of ladies sleepwear, operating for nearly 50 years, employing hundreds of people from New York to Pennsylvania. Beanzie had a number of passions in his life; his time at the McBurney YMCA in Manhattan and his financial, hands on, charitable work with a number of institutions including New York University Hospital & Lifeline Center for Child Development, his love of tennis and jogging. Irwin was predeceased by his father Sidney, mother Lillian, and sister Helene Seidner. He is survived by wife Bernette, sons Daniel, Richard, and Kenneth, daughters-in-law Beth, Robin, and Nancy and grandchildren Kyle, Rachel, Rebecca, Sarah, Max, Roth, and Sydney. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 21st at 2:00 PM at Riverside Memorial Chapel located in Manhattan on 180 West 76th Street. For those that wish to make memorial donations, the family suggests The Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 68 Hauppauge Road Commack, NY 11725.
