Joe Brady loved people. And people loved him!
A life long, native New Yorker, Joe grew up on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, at 15 West 81st St., and lived with his wife and children on the Upper East Side, at 201 East 62nd Street, were he also served on the co-op board. Most recently, he was a resident of The Atria on West 86th.
Joe graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and served in the Navy during the Korean War.
He started his career in the textile manufacturing industry as a salesman at Dundee Mills, Inc., a leading towel maker in the industry, where his father, Joseph Brady, Sr., was the Vice President. Later in his career, he became an Executive Officer at Best Manufacturing and then President of Leschner Mills; also textile firms.
Joe, his wife Manon and their kids, spent their summers at their home on Fire Island. Joe was very active in the Ocean Beach community throughout the years, holding several positions on the Board of Trustees, and was also a volunteer fireman.
Joe loved music. He inherited his beautiful, rich voice from his mother Frances, who was an opera singer. Once retired, Joe devoted much of his time to performing for the elderly all over New York City with the Singers Forum Outreach Group. He worked with them for over 10 years and was the group Director for much of that time. It brought him great joy to brighten their day by taking them on a musical stroll down memory lane.
Joe is survived by his daughter Jill Brady, his son Jay Brady, daughter-in-law Gail Brady and 2 grandchildren, Jacob and Emily Brady.
He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Manon Drate Brady, who died in 2009, and his devoted sister, Barbara “Bobby” Brady Weisberger, who passed in 2013.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joe’s honor to either the Actors Fund, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
